What can you tell me about compostable packaging?

When choosing packaging for our teas, we wanted something that reflected the same care and intention that goes into choosing every tea and crafting each herbal blend. That's why we use compostable stand-up pouches, compostable labels, and compostable seal stickers

But what does "compostable" actually mean?

Compostable packaging is designed to break down into water, carbon dioxide, and organic matter, leaving no toxic residue behind. Unlike traditional plastic packaging, which can persist in landfills and the environment for decades, compostable materials are made from renewable resources such as plant-based resins and wood cellulose

Our packaging meets ASTM D6400 compostability standards, a widely recognized benchmark used to verify that materials can safely break down during the composting process

Commercial composting vs. home composting

Commercial composting facilities provide the ideal environment for compostable packaging. These facilities maintain higher temperatures and carefully controlled conditions that allow compostable materials to break down efficiently

If your local composting program accepts certified compostable packaging, this is generally the recommended disposal method

What about home composting?

According to our packaging supplier, our packaging can also break down in a well-maintained home compost system. However, because home compost piles typically don't reach the same temperatures as commercial facilities, decomposition often takes longer. Factors such as moisture, airflow, temperature, and the overall health of the compost pile all affect how quickly materials break down

In other words, compostable doesn't mean it disappears overnight—but given the right conditions, it can return to the earth rather than remain as waste

A better choice, one package at a time

We know access to composting facilities varies from community to community. Still, we believe compostable options are the best solution for a world that needs packages

By choosing compostable pouches, labels, and seal stickers, we're taking one small, intentional step toward reducing waste without sacrificing quality
